What we do

Using innovative and science-backed teaching methods, we're a fresh and inclusive new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) school in Wellington.
Jiu Jitsu is an efficient grappling martial art and a combat sport. Many practitioners of Jiu Jitsu are initially drawn to it because of its effectiveness in fighting and self-defence. They stick with it because of how much fun it is to practise.

At Workshop we train collaboratively - we workshop our Jiu Jitsu. We believe that people learn best through discovery, so we facilitate your development through that process. We seek your feedback and questions during and after formal instruction because it helps everyone to learn and us to be better coaches.

There is no bowing, no titles, deference by rank, or other out of place rituals at Workshop Jiu Jitsu. Our belt ranks represent growth, and vague ability but not privilege. We train both Gi (canvas uniform) and NoGi (rash top and shorts or leggings). We want to provide you with a safe environment to have fun and get really good at BJJ!
